In order to run Linux on Windows you will need to set up virtual machine software. Oracle VirtualBox is a popular free virtual machine. Once you have virtual machine software you can then install Linux and run it in a virtual machine on top of Windows. Xubuntu is a Linux distribution based on the popular Ubuntu distribution but uses the lightweight XFce window manager which is ideal for a virtual machine.
